In The Blue Of The Day
Seventh studio album · Written, performed, recorded, produced and mastered by Jack in his home-studio.
"A warm, intimate, and at times acerbic collection of songs exploring resilience, hope, anxiety, overwhelm, and life's quiet moments."
In The Blue Of The Day is Jack Carty's seventh studio album — written, recorded, produced, and mixed almost entirely alone in his home in Mount Cotton, Queensland. It is the kind of album that could only have come from someone who has spent years learning to listen to themselves.
Ten songs about worry, love, memory, and grace. This is a deeply human record that balances introspection, uncertainty and longing with melodic optimism and acceptance.

A labour of love
In The Blue Of The Day was written, performed, produced, recorded and mastered almost entirely by Jack in his home studio in South-East Queensland (save for one piano track phoned in from England).
It is Jacks seventh album, and in many ways his most direct. The songs circle themes of anxiety and resilience, of loving people while worrying about everything, of the quiet optimism that comes from still being here and making things.
Released March 2026. Recorded at home, Mount Cotton, Queensland.

I worry
My mind up and goes
When the time comes
For me to lay down my load
I've been running
Just like sauce on a plate
And I worry
I'll worry my life away
Yes I worry
I'll worry my life away
I've been driving
Toward the sun in the sky
Watch the floaters
At the edge of my eye
Just a shadow
In the blue of the day
And I worry
I'll worry my life away
Yes I worry
I'll worry my life away
I dreamt
A big wave
Curling fingers of foam
Here to take me away
I worry
But sometimes the peace comes
Still and gentle
Feel it rest in my bones
For a moment
How I wish it could stay
And I worry
I'll worry my life away
Yes I worry
I'll worry my life away
Yes I worry
I'll worry my life away
Yes I worry
I'll worry my life away

I'm not perfect
But I'm trying
You blink twice
When you are lying
Buckle under expectation
Steady as a Roman building
What a world
The ice is growing thin
And love is gonna save us in the end
Every day
A new adventure
Heart so full
I feel it breaking
Nothing else
Comes into frame
Blueberries
And guessing games
What a world
The ice is growing thin
And love is gonna save us in the end
Sometimes it seems
There's nothing to do
Just hold onto me
I'll hold on to you
I'm not perfect
But I'm trying
What a world
The ice is growing thin
And love is gonna save us in the end
Love is gonna save us in the end
Love is gonna save us in the end
Love is gonna save us in the end

The world is cactus
Covered in pr**ks
We'll never see the end of it
Diving through digital waves
That make your skin crawl
Just a fat leech gorging on it all
It's making me crazy like it does
It's making me thirst for water
It's making my hair stand up on end
I'm thinking we're cactus
Cactus my friend
Watch the modern prophet
Preach the gospel of want
Command them all
Like a living god
The ice caps melting
And the ocean's gonna rise
You missed it
You were looking at another life
It's making you crazy like it does
It's making you thirst for water
It's making your hair stand up on end
I'm thinking we're cactus
Cactus my friend
Bailing out
We're taking on water now
Head down
As the sh*t flies
I've found
Some protection
In going to ground
Spikes up
Like the cacti
It's making us crazy like it does
It's making us thirst for water
It's making our hair stand up on end
I'm thinking we're cactus
Cactus my friends

There's a photograph
Where you look alike
Walking on the beach
1985
She is young and lean
And she's smiling wide
And the storm clouds hang
In the distance there
They are sparse and grey
Like an old man's hair
And they follow her
Almost everywhere
You know they do
They follow you too
Some sad stray dog
You could never lose
Ain't it lonely being blue?
And she did her best
Just like anyone
What a wise woman
What a paragon
But she gets real dark
When she's all alone
Tried to meditate
But it never works
Smoke it all away
Watch the feelings burn
Does she need it now
Just to feel some warmth?
You need it too
It's sad but true
Patch the crumbling dam
With paper glue
Ain't it lonely being blue?
She's been with you like a heartbeat
A constant, all your life
You can see her on the back porch
She's trying not to cry
And smiling like 1985
There's a photograph
Where you look alike
Walking on the beach
Just the other night.

Orange like the sunset
Bleeding through the sky
Orange like the leaves at Easter
Orange like the cut up fruit we ate at halftime
Orange like the thick lantana
I'm sorry
I mean it
I can't make up my mind
And there in my dreaming
Is a flashing amber light
Orange like the classic
Paperbacks you buy
Orange like a maple flower
Orange like your sundress
Orange like the light
Black as charcoal from the fire
I'm sorry
I mean it
I can't make up my mind
And there in my dreaming
Is a flashing amber light
I'm sorry
I mean it
I'm somewhere in between
And there in my dreaming
Is a flashing amber light

Pollyanna
I swear everything is fine
There's no cockroach in the ointment
There's no blight upon the vine
Pollyanna
You know everything is cool
And even if it isn't
Hell, there's not much you can do
And all this worry's gonna fill your mind
Like the rising ocean
Like your cheap red wine
It's not your fault
You didn't start the fire
But, now it's burning like a
Funeral pyre
Pollyanna
You just go from day to day
Stopped reading the newspapers
It's all bulls**t anyway
Pollyanna
When you're in your bed at night
Do you watch the ceiling fan
And think of sh*t you wanna buy?
And all this worry's gonna fill your mind
Like the rising ocean
Your cheap red wine
It's not your fault
You didn't start the fire
And now it's burning like a
Funeral pyre
Born under a sign
A comet in the sky
Your parents read the astral charts and
The planets all aligned
They named you for the times…
"Pollyanna"
Well it fills your mind
It's the rising ocean
It's the winter time
It's not your fault
You didn't start the fire
But grab a bucket
Gotta try to fight it
-
Our house looks like a bomb has hit
There's crayons in the kitchen sink
Since you came along
And flipped the whole world upside down
There's glitter on the kitchen floor
Pink dresses scattered down the hall
I tried to write a song
But you've turned Taylor Swift up loud
I wasn't such a fan
But now I think I am
Arms in the air
Just like a pyramid
Standing on its head
I wanna give and give and give and give
But I could never give enough
So I think this must be love
My bed is full of unicorns
I dream amongst their sparkling horns
Your footsteps on the stairs
Sound like a welcome summer breeze
You told me I'm a silly man
I swear to god, you're right I am
You seem to know something that I've
Forgotten long ago
I'm watching as you sleep
I've never felt such peace
Arms in the air
Just like a pyramid
Standing on its head
I wanna give and give and give and give
But I could never give enough
So I think this must be love
You said "if you see a black hole
Never jump in it, you should run!"
So, if you stumble on a black hole
You better tell your dad and mum
Arms in the air
Just like a pyramid
Standing on its head
I wanna give and give and give and give
But I could never give enough
So I think this must be love

There's a season to grow
And a season to sow
And a season buried
Under winter snow
And I miss all my friends
That I made way back when
Now everyone has families
Of their own
When I feel the change
I surrender
Everything is change
Forever
There's a pattern for you
And a pattern for me
And a pattern where the skyline
Meets the trees
Watch the river flow by
See the sun in your eyes
And the moon still up
Although it's daytime
When I feel the change
I surrender
Everything is change
Forever
There's the world that I wish
And the world as it is
And suffering lies in the difference
Can you feel the change?
Surrender
Everything is change
Forever
Forever
Forever

You're the root of all evil
And a goddess to some
Show some leg then return to your tower
Watch the cavalry come
And I don't really know you
But from what I have seen
You're out pickin' the winners and losers
Who's red and who's green?
Everybody here wants you
Got their eyes on the prize
I'd be lying if I said
That I don't think about you sometimes
And I want you to stay with me
But I don't want you running my life
That kind of thing can hollow a man out inside
I've looked up as you flew by
I've seen you in the dirt
Come on baby, please tell me, I'm wondering
What's a human life worth?
Some will kill just to have you
Some will die 'cause they don't
But you're loyal, you stick with the people you know
For the most part
I'm told
Everybody here wants you
Got their eyes on the prize
I'd be lying if I said
That I don't think about you sometimes
And I want you to stay with me
But I don't want you running my life
That kind of thing can hollow a man out…
You say you don't decide
Who's right or whose wrong
You just go with the flow
Go wherever you want
You're known all 'round the world
By all different names
Up and down like the ocean
But always the same
Outside of the bubble
You're nothing at all
A collective delusion
A lie we all want
But I can't tell the difference
You exist in my head
But still pick all the winners
Who's green and who's red?
Everybody here wants you
Got their eyes on the prize
I'd be lying if I said
That I don't think about you sometimes
And I want you to stay with me
But I don't want you running my life
That kind of thing can hollow a man out
That kind of thing can hollow a man out inside

I got better things to do
Than to keep up with the trends
I got mouths to feed
And books to read
And gardens to tend
An open sky there in my mind
A wave on the sea
Forgetting where I am
Or who I happen to be
There's a new Cold War
It's getting hotter
There's a ticking clock
It's getting louder
Can you feel it?
Everything is falling apart
But here we are
Right here, we are
Everything is falling apart
But here we are
Right here, we are
Your breathing is the crashing waves
That soothe me
When I grow tired
And I need someone to hold me
Do you understand the reasons
I get lonely?
When connection's just a tool
For selling something
There's a new cold war
It's getting hotter
There's a ticking clock
It's getting louder
Can you feel it?
Everything is falling apart
But here we are
Right here, we are
Everything is falling apart
But here we are
Right here, we are
So patch the holes
To stem the flow
The years spin on and on
Know that you are lucky
Can you feel it?
Everything is falling apart
But here we are
Right here, we are
Everything is falling apart
But here we are
Right here, we are
