Opening for my dear friend and wonderful songwriter Emily Barker.

Emily Barker is an award-winning Australian singer-songwriter. She had early success as the writer and performer of the theme to the hugely successful BBC/PBS Masterpiece crime drama Wallander starring Kenneth Branagh, and has since gone on to forge an acclaimed catalogue of releases.

Barker has announced her new album, Fragile as Humans - out 3rd May - produced at storied English studio The Wool Hall by Luke Potashnick (Gabrielle Aplin, Jack Savoretti, Alberta Cross). It's her first album for nearly four years, following A Dark Murmuration of Words, which Uncut called “…a kind of Australian equivalent of PJ Harvey’s Let England Shake”

Barker has released music and toured as a solo artist as well as with various bands and collaborations, most notably her long association with Frank Turner, and has written for TV and film, including composing the soundtrack for Jake Gavin’s lauded debut feature Hector starring Peter Mullan and Keith Allen

Emily Barker

Emily Barker is the award-winning songwriter and performer of the theme to BBC TV’s Wallander starring Kenneth Branagh. Her music is a blend of roots influences from country to English folk via 60s pop.

Alongside the Wallander theme, Emily has also provided the theme music to BBC TV drama The Shadow Line (which won an Ivor Novello for best TV soundtrack for series composer Martin Phipps) and has recently (in collaboration again with Martin Phipps) composed music for Daniel Barber’s The Keeping Room (Sam Worthington, Brit Marling, Hailee Steinfeld) as well as her first feature length soundtrack, for Jake Gavin’s UK road movie Hector starring Peter Mullan.

Her most recent album is a collection of solo versions of songs from her previous albums: The Toerag Sessions was recorded live to tape at London’s legendary ToeRag Studios with Grammy-winning producer Liam Watson.

Emily released three full albums with The Red Clay Halo: Despite the Snow (2008), Almanac (2011) and Dear River (2013). A newly remastered version of Despite the Snow has been pressed on 180g vinyl to coincide with the final season of Wallander.
